Ruffles + chandeliers + cowls

I just used my Anthro birthday discount last week. Of course, there is still more that I want. Of course.

All elbows

Ohhhh how I love elbow patches! Want want want!

If only…

Sometimes, I play a little game in which I fill up my online shopping cart to my heart’s content – a harmless virtual shopping spree. The only hard part is remembering not to click “Place Order” when I’m done (harder than one might think). I first started out today’s game with an allowance of $500. Then I lifted the monetary restrictions and instructed myself to choose just 5 items. Then I decided 5 items looked funny in a collage, so I threw in one extra, to make 6.

So voilà…today’s installment of “If only I had an extra $738 (pre-shipping/pre-tax) to throw around…”

I’m no polka dot bikini girl…

HA, sometimes it’s kind of hard to come up with a title!

Though we’ve got a good 2 months of winter left, I have swimwear and sun dresses on my mind!  I’m already looking forward to Jamaica, celebrating and sitting pool side at our very own villa and am on the lookout for suits different from what I already own.

I paid a virtual visit to Anthro and it seems that their current collection of swimwear is 50s-inspired.  Totally not my style and I can’t imagine how a high-waisted bikini bottom would look – I’m assuming it would accentuate any pooch there is – or would it be like Spanx?  Hmmm.

I really like the twist bandeau top of the Wild Watermelon Two-Piece but that bottom is so high-waisted its almost like one of those corsets that go from your hips to the bottom of your boobs. I also like the top of the Stacked Odds Bikini, and would totally wear the bottom if the waist was cut just a bit lower.  The Bit-of-Sun Bikini is included in this show-n-tell because not only does the top really look like an undergarment, the bottoms look like granny panties, yikes.

A couple of the Anthro one-pieces caught my eye, and I think they’d be cute pool-side:  the Lake Ripples Suit and the Showstopper Maillot but at $168 and $258, I doubt I’ll even be trying them on.

The swimwear search continues…

The good, the bad, the ugly [Anthro]

Things that didn’t work:

It came as no surprise to me that the Sweeping Frills Sweater looked really ill-fitting and just weird on me. And it was so short! Next is a colorful top that caught my eye from the sale racks, but I think it ended up looking a little maternity on me. And then there was yet another frilly ruffly number, the Balletomane Tank, that just didn’t look right to me. Would probably look better on someone much thinner than me.

Things that were eh-just-ok:

The “Through the Clouds Tank” in gray and white was cute, but I don’t know if it was necessarily $70-cute. Especially considering I’d always be covering it up. I’m actually liking it less and less as I look back at these pictures.

Things that I really liked, and was sad to leave behind:

This Beribboned Buds Cardigan was awesome — loved the grosgrain detail and the bright fuschia color. The Tutu tank was, as suspected, adorable. I didn’t see navy in the store, but actually fell in love with the pink one. A lot of times J.Crew’s ruffled tanks can add a lot of undesirable volume, but I thought this one was pretty flattering.

And finally, the things that came home with me:

I didn’t think I’d like the Pucker-Up Cardigan, but unfortunately I REALLY REALLY DID. I also couldn’t resist the siren call of the Foliage Fancy Tee. The lace looked so nice peeking out here and there! I will justify this purchase using the old “cost per wear” concept, and swear to wear this thin little tee until it is nothing more than a limp lacy rag…which could be by next month, but here’s hoping for a long and happy future together!

Anthro revisited (already?)

Just can’t stop bulking up my Anthro wishlist! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to stop by a store tomorrow to see if I can see any of these in real life.

These first two seem like perfect layering tees! (Um, expensive layering tees…)

Foliage Fancy Tee – $58 Love the lace cutouts, and both colors! But the material looks really thin (good for layering, but bad for maintaining?), and the white is probably super duper sheer.

Through the Clouds Tank – $68 This slub cotton material looks more substantial than the last tee. Would be cute peeking under cardis.

Prized Bloom Blouson – $228 So pretty! I love the little X detail by the neckline! Sometimes these blouson tops make me look even bigger though, so I’d have to try it on. Also, $228 is just too much.

These next ones should have made it on my Ruffles Overload post. They are kind of over the top and borderline ridiculous, but I can’t help it — I kinda sorta love them.

Settling Petals Cardi – $168 Had to show this in both beige and red colors – gorgeous! They look so cute on the models, but carry a high probability of looking like voluminous messes on me. I still want to try, though!

Sweeping Frills Sweater – $128 This one has even LESS of a chance of working out on me than the last one because it’s a pullover and not a cardigan. Some reviews also say that it is pretty short in real life. But hey, girl can dream…

Great Heights Shift – $148 I never wear dresses, but I love this! An ode to my favorite city in dress form! Can’t you just picture it with a pair of colorful tights?

Outside in Loungers – $58 These are a little frivolous, but they look so comfortable and the bow is so cute. So perfect for lounging around on the couch, doing nothing on those lazy Sundays (ahem, case in point: I feel like my life would be SO much better if I had them on right now).

Ruffles galore

When I get bored, I fill up my online carts with fantasy shopping spree loot. I love these tops from Anthro! There’s no such thing as too many ruffles, right?

Feathery tank – $68 I love both the cream and charcoal!  Although the pink looks pretty on the model, I don’t think it would look great on me. Can I also add that I love this colorful tissue pomander wonderland set they’ve got going on here?

Tutu tank – $68 Especially love how the back of this one looks (although let’s be honest, if I ever bought it, no one would see it since it’d get covered by a cardigan).  Also comes in white and baby pink, but I think the navy is my favorite. There are those adorable poms again!

Forever garden tee  – $58 Ok, I just know this would look SO BAD on me, but I can’t help but love the bright and pretty colors.  I can never get shirts/dresses with tie waists to look right on me.  So sad, boohoo.
